What Ister does
One server for every kind of media you collect, and one app to enjoy it on any screen in the house.
Media library & metadata
Point Ister at your movies, shows, music, podcasts, books and comics and it scans, matches and enriches everything with artwork and metadata.
On-the-fly transcoding
FFmpeg-powered transcoding adapts any source file to your device and bandwidth, from 4K on the couch to mobile data on the go.
Player on every screen
One Flutter app for Android, Android TV, Linux desktop and the browser — watch, listen and read wherever you are.
Full-text search
Typesense-backed instant search across your whole library: titles, people, genres and more.
Multi-user & party mode
Every household member gets their own watch state and continue-watching row — or watch together in party mode.
One-command Helm install
A single Helm chart deploys the server, web player, PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ and Typesense to any Kubernetes cluster.
Privacy-friendly by design
Ister is open source and runs entirely on hardware you control.
No phoning home
Server and player send no telemetry, no analytics and no usage statistics. Nothing checks in with us — there is no "us" to check in with.
Your data stays yours
Your library, watch history and accounts live in your own PostgreSQL database on your own hardware. No cloud account is needed to use Ister.
Only the calls you expect
The only outbound traffic is metadata lookups at public sources such as TMDB, MusicBrainz and Open Library — for the media you asked Ister to scan.
Documentation
Guides for watching, for running your own server, and for contributing to the code.
